Every single person is different, and your ocularist will have recommendations tailored specifically to you. These recommendations may include periodic removal, cleaning of the prosthesis with water and a tissue, and then careful inspection of the eye to insure no tissue residue is left on the prosthesis prior to reinsertion (which can cause a serious eye infection). An ocularist may recommend such a regimen daily, to every few months, depending on the eye wearer’s condition. The uniqueness of the maintenance regimen should be discussed thoroughly with a Board Certified Ocularist, and not be left to the patient’s discretion.
